Examination Details / Schedule


Candidates must be –
1. A Indian Citizen or
2. A subject of Nepal or
3. A subject of Bhutan
4. A Tibetan refugee who came to visit India before 01 Jan 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or
5. A person originally Indian who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Note: Provided that a candidate belonging to categories 2, 3, 4 and 5 shall be a private in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Indian government. Certificate of eligibility won’t, however, be necessary just in case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.

Age Limits, Gender & Marital Status

For NDA (1) 2020: The candidates having age between 2nd July 2001 to 1st July 2004 are qualified for the assessment. Whenever conceived before 2nd July 2001 and after 1st July 2004 then not qualified for NDA-I 2020 Examination.
For NDA (2) 2020: Those who have age between 2nd January 2002 to 1st January 2005 are permitted to write down the exam. If the candidate bears the age before 2nd January 2002 and after 1st January 2005, they're not allowed to seem the exam.
For NDA Examination only un-married candidates are allowed. Girl’s candidates are not eligible for NDA/NA Examination.
Note-1: The DOB mentioned within the Matriculation/Higher Secondary Examination Certificate available or the same certificate is going to be considered by the commission.
Note-2: Candidates are informed to not marry until they complete their full training. A candidate who marries after the date of his application though successful at this or any subsequent exam won't be selected for training. A candidate who marries during the training shall be discharged and can be susceptible to refund all expenditure incurred on him by the Government.

Educational Qualification

The Academic Qualifications various slightly consistent with the post that the candidate has applied for. the small print of educational qualification for various posts are specified below:
Army Wing: Candidate should pass certificate in 10+2 exams via recognized board or a University.
Naval Wings: Candidate should have passed Class 12th exam within the 10+2 pattern of faculty Education or equivalent with Physics and Math’s conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
• It must be noted that candidates studying in school 11th aren't eligible for appearing in NDA 2019 exam. Additionally, those candidates who have failed INSB / PABT earlier won't be considered eligible for recruitment within the Air Force.
• Those candidates, who are currently studying in school 12th at the time of application, must submit proof of passing the exam by the deadline. Requests for extending the maturity wouldn't be entertained on any grounds.
• It must even be noted that the candidates who are debarred by the Ministry of Defence from holding any sort of Commission within the Defence Services are going to be considered ineligible for admission to the exam.

Physical Standards

Candidates must be physically & mentally fit as per the physical standards maintained by the National Defence Academy and academy Examination 2020.
A candidate who has resigned or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any of the training academies of soldiers isn't eligible to use. The detailed physical standards are mentioned here:Candidates are required rectify minor defects/ailments so as to speed up finalization of a checkup conducted at the hospital after being recommended at the SSB.

Body Tattoos

Permanent body tattoos are accepted only on the inner face of a forearm. Tattoos on the within of elbow to the wrist and on the reverse side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hand/Permanent body tattoos on the other a part of the body aren't acceptable.
Tribes with tattoo marks on the face or body as per their existing custom and traditions are going to be permitted on a case by case basis.
Commandant Selection Centre is going to be the competent authority for clearing such cases.

Height & Weight for Army and Air Force

The minimum height prescribed is 157 cms (For Air Force it's 162.5 cms). Certain exceptions are applicable for candidates supported the region from where they belong.

For Gorkhas and candidates belonging to hills of North-Eastern areas of India, Garhwal and Kumaon, the minimum height is going to be 5 cms but the figure mentioned above. For candidates belonging to Lakshadweep, the minimum height standard is reduced by 2 cms.

Candidates who wish to be pilot got to fulfil the subsequent requirements -
Leg Length: The minimum of 99 cms and maximum of 120 cms.
Thigh Length: Maximum of 64 cms.
Sitting Height: The minimum of 81.50 cms and maximum is 96 cms.

Visual Standards

• The distance vision (corrected) of candidates should be 6/6 within the better eye and 6/9 within the worse eye.
• Myopia shouldn't be quite 2.5 D.
• Hypermetropia less than 3.5 D including Astigmatism.
• Air Force candidates must not wear spectacles.
