What is Indian Coast Guard Exam?

Indian Coast Guard (ICG) every year conducts recruitment for the post of Assistant Commandant, Yantrik and Navik. Indian Coast Guard Navik General Duty (GD) admit card will be available from February 25, 2019, in online mode. The application form for Indian Coast Guard Navik 2019 (GD) was available from January 21 in online mode. Candidates who are eligible could fill the form till January 31, 2019. To be eligible for Indian Coast Guard Navik 2019 post, applicants age should be 18 to 22 years. Earlier, the exam conducting authority had released the notification for Indian Coast Guard Navik 2019 General Duty on January 10, 2019. The selection process comprises – written exam, physical fitness test and initial medical examination. Candidates selected for this post have to undergo training at Indian Naval Ship (INS), Chilka.
The admit card for Navik DB was available from November 19 and candidates can download the admit card by entering their required credentials in the login window. The application was available from October 15. Candidates could fill the Indian Coast Guard Navik DB form till October 29, 2018, in online mode.   • All the applications was accepted online only.
  • Candidates need to select the advertisement for recruitment of Navik General Duty.
  • Select the post of Navik- General Duty
  • Fill in the basic details like name, father’s name, mother’s name, email and phone number.
  • Also, put the exact percentage of marks obtained in class 12 and this should not be rounded off.
  • Select any one centre.
  • Candidates have to upload photograph and signature in jpeg format. The size of the photograph and signature should not exceed 40 kb and 30 kb respectively.
  • Fill up all the star marked entries, all those are compulsory.
  • After filling up all the details, go through the form once again before clicking the submit button.
  • On successful submission of application, a unique application/registration number will appear. Candidates must note down this number for future reference.

Age Limit for Navik Post - 18 to 22 years
  • Candidates applying for General Duty (GD) and Domestic Branch (DB) must be between 18 to 22 years of age.
    • General - 18 to 22

    • Must have passed 10+2 with aggregate 50% and a minimum aggregate of 50% in Mathematics and Physics from a recognized education board.
  • Navik (Domestic Branch)
    • Must have passed class 10th with an aggregate of 50% from a recognized education board.
Candidates are required to bring these original documents at the examination centre for verification. After verification original documents will be given back to the candidates.
  • Three copies of pre-filled e-admit cards with passport size photograph on it.
  • Original marksheet and certificate of class 10th for DB and for GD class 10th and 12th certificate is required.
  • Original caste certificate (if applicable) issued by District Magistrate/Sub-District Magistrate/Tehsildar.
  • Domicile certificate of their respective states.
  • Identity proof like passport, Aadhaar card, Voter ID card, Pan Card or School or College ID card.
  • Also, ten passport size recent photograph (not older than 1 month) with a blue background.
Note: Candidates who fail to present the above documents will not be allowed to sit in the written examination.
The test will be conducted for Navik GD the test will be held in March-April 2019.
  • Candidates will be shortlisted for written test on the basis of higher percentage of marks obtained in class 10th and 12th respectively.
  • Candidates who will qualify written test have to go for a Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and initial medical examination. The whole process will take up to 2 days. (Candidates who are physically challenged are not eligible for this examination.)
  • Shortlisted candidates will undergo an initial medical examination.
  • The final list of selected candidates will be prepared according to the vacancies available.
  • For Navik (DB), the zone wise list will be announced in March 2019. Whereas the zone wise list for Navik GD will be announced in December/January. Merit will be zone wise and not centre wise.
Note: All the selected candidates will undergo a Final Medical Examination at INS Chilka. Candidates declared medically unfit there will have to return back at their own expenses.

Navik (GD) are trained at INS Chilka for 24 weeks. The basic training will commence in February, followed by sea and professional training. Also, Navik has to go through afloat training for 3 months followed by Cadre training. The training period will depend upon the cadre and may vary from 4-6 months.

Navik (DB) will be trained at INS Chilka for 15 weeks. The training will commence in April 2019. They will also undergo the basic sea and professional training followed by afloat training for 3 months and also 6 months branch training at INS Hamla in Mumbai.
Indian Coast Guard Navik ranks and salaries
On joining the Indian coast guard, candidates will be given basic pay of Rs. 21700/-. They will also be given dearness Allowance and other allowances based on the place of posting and duty as per the rules and regulation.
